Welcome,
Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Rafael ALBUQUERQUE began his professional artist career working in advertising, producing illustrations for various local companies.
The Egyptian publishing company AK Comics asked for some samples, after seeing his work on the internet, thus began his first working gig overseas. Rafael’s work at AK Comics included the titles "Jalila", "Zein" and most popular of all, "Rakan". About this time, overloaded with work, Rafael realized that he would need a little more structure in his life to deal with his ever increasing work load, so in 2005, he created PopArt Studios. Rafael put together a team of good comic creators able produce more titles monthly and deal with owner/creator projects.
The first project created by PopArt Studios was "Rumble in La Rambla" (now know as "Crimeland"), created along with writer Felipe Ferreira which was released by Image Comics. After receiving several great reviews on "Rumble", one of the many job offers resulted in a partnership with Boom!Studios. At Boom! Rafael drew several new series like "Savage Brothers" (written by Andrew Cosby and Johanna Stokes), "Pirate Tales" (written by Chris Ward) and "Jeremiah Harm" (created by Keith Griffen and Alan Grant).
In 2006, Rafael started working for DC Comics drawing "The Blue Beetle", Rafael was then selected as fill-in artist on "Superman/Batman".
2010 brought a significant opportunity to Rafael, he was hand picked by editors at Vertigo to work with a new up and coming horror writer, namely Scott Snyder and argueably the "king" of American horror Stephen KING! Together they are producing a much anticipated book, "American Vampire".
